We seem a bit stagnant around here of late, but from the sounds of things its because people have been busy, which is a good thing (depending on how you look at it). but we should get something up and running, something to get us all involved again. So, I'm opening this thread up for discussion on this topic of
What should we do?
Not looking for a full-out idea, but it could be elements of something. somethign todo with drawing? photography? writing? shoe box diorama? actually, that one sounds fun.
anything/everything, just toss it out there and get it on the board. let it grow.

Yeah, I quit my job back in January to work on my own things, and really haven't done much of anything worthwhile (nothing in regards to my personal work). I've come to the conclusion that I just cannot sit at home ad work on my home. I end up popping on a DVD or something to have in the background and the next thing I know I've lost two hours sitting on the couch watching it.
I think that's why I love the 24 hour comic, cause being around other people also doing stuff gives me the added motivation that I sorely need.
My old creative director has this thing what he does with a friend of his where they each set a goal for their selves for the month, and the one that doesn't accomplish theirs has to pay the other guy $300 (now, I couldn't afford that, which is why I didn't join in when he invited me).
Maybe we need something like that, not with the financial payout, but we talk about about what we want to accomplish over the course of a month, and then we give a update each week as to how we're going. At the end of the month we post what we did.
How does that sound?

Well, without the payout, that's what we already do here, right? And, since there's no consequence, the XBox or whatever wins. With the payout, I already do that: www.crowncommission.com/dailygrind/Just passed four years of posting a daily comic.

I'm all for a new challenge like Naked Leia or NANOWRIMO, or a collaborative project like Pixel Lincoln. We just need to get it going and do it. Of course I don't have any ideas... but if someone does count me in.

Ha ha! Look at all those losers! Still man, 4 years, that's damn impressive. Edit: (For the record, I meant all the people who failed and dropped out of it, not the people actually participating.) I'm all for a new challenge like Naked Leia or NANOWRIMO, or a collaborative project like Pixel Lincoln. We just need to get it going and do it. Of course I don't have any ideas... but if someone does count me in. Well, I like that idea too (though I don't know what NANOWRIMO means...), but maybe we should do something a bit more general. Like, even though I've never been overly impressed with the books (and I own just about all of them now), I've always really liked the idea behind Flight. A series of stories created behind a single word that can be as interpretative as heck. Maybe we should each try to do something of our own, a painting or a short comic/novel/illustrated story around a single word/theme. For myself, I can recommend two words (and please feel free to come up with your own suggestions): Grounded (inspired as an opposite of Flight) Bare (can be interpreted in any way people want) I figure once we pick the theme, we all decide on a deadline (a week, two weeks, a month), and our individual medium of how we want to represent it. Then we post updates as we go along. It doesn't have to be big, a six page comic or 1,000 word story would do. At least to start. How does that sound?

Well, the nanowrimo people do Script Frenzy through April: ***(cut and pasted) It's called Script Frenzy and it's organized by us here at the Office of Letters and Light. Script Frenzy runs from April 1 to April 30. The challenge: Write a 100-page movie, play, graphic novel, or series of TV scripts in a month. You can check it out at www.scriptfrenzy.org. *** I loved the christ out of Nano (Grasshopper: NaNoWriMo was National Novelwriting Month (november) where you write a 50 000 word novel in 30 days) but a big part of the appeal was that other people were doing it alongside me. So anyone interested? I might just try my hand at a filmscript, for the first time ever. But also I love the interpretation of a set phrase/set of words idea. I think that's done to great effect with www.drawergeeks.com and there aint nothin wrong with copying what works, plus our scope would be a little broader if we're encompassing all kinds of mediums. What say you, friends?

I remember Luke telling me about that novel writing thing back when he first told me about this site. Sounds like a cool thing. Must admit, I was looking at that Script Frenzy comp a little while back and thought it looked cool. Even got some cool synopsis from it so even if I don't manage to do the comp in April (I've never actually written a script before, all I remember being told is 1 page roughly equals 1 minute on film). I had never heard of www.drawergeeks.com before, but I'm going to have to look at that more often. So I'm in with 'borrowing' their concept, and I like the flexibility of what I mentioned before. I've said my two words, anyone else ant to put in a word/phrase of their own? I figure once we agree on this we can start a thread in Group Projects.
