We've been getting previews for this here recently, and I think it opens tomorrow (or thursday for thanksgiving, I'm not sure) and it looks to be in the category of "grand, epic movie", and thats about what I know about it. Considering a fair part of the board are Australians, I was curious what you have heard/know about this movie (I believe I saw online that it opens in Australia later in the month?) Is this just a US mega-movie cashing in on you and bastardizing in the process, or does it actually retell a part of Australian history/folklore? It seems pretty bold in any case to name itself after an entire country.

Well, we've heard a lot about seeing as how it's got the two biggest Australian stars (arguably) and the biggest Australian director (also arguably. Baz vs George Miller cage match). I also know a few people who worked on it who had varying experiences.
From what I've heard so far it's a very stylised film, almost a fantasy world. There are a lot of effects and cgi enhancements (I know someone that was working on them). And Australian views say it's a very simplified look at certain historical elements. It's certainly not a history of the country. So, I'd say, by all accounts, that it's pretty much a cash grab for foreign markets, particularly the US. Something neatly packaged up for you guys more than us.
I'm not going to see it. I can see Australia any time I want out my window for free.

I'll totally see it, as I love watching shitty shitty bang bang movies, but I will download it rather than give them any money.

I just looked it up and it's definitely not what I expected. I thought it was called "Australia: The Movie" and I was ready for a Mel Brooks / History of the World type film. Then I thought maybe it wsa another god awful parody movie like Date Movie or Epic Movie. I was way off.

Hmmm. Given that I'm a pretty big Hugh Jackman fan, part of me is keen to see this. But there's another part (the part that has seen the trailer) which can almost sense that I'm going to hate it immensely. What to do, what to do???

My eyes bled after seeing the preview and I threw up a little in my mouth. It looks like every bad Australian cliche rolled into one big cash-grabbing yawn targeted at people who still think kangaroos jump down city streets and Crocodile Dundee was a documentary. Essentially it's like prostituting your grandmother.
I probably won't go see this.

haha I haven't seen it but it got like, 3.5/5 in the toronto metro movie review section.
I really dislike kidman so I doubt I'll see it...unless I'm over at someone's house and they put it on the dvd player or something...
