In the new challenges thread Grug wrote the following: "I did think of a challenge I was going to suggest the other day too. Inspired by this blog: coveredblog.blogspot.com/Basically the idea is to take a classic comic cover and re-interpret it. I thought it could be cool if we did our own. " And Grug is right! This idea really appeals to me, so let's kick it off. There was a ton of stuff I wanted to cover but I've gone for something relatively simple, but with a visual trick I've always wanted to replicate. Here's my version of Batman #8: Here's the original: Cover away!

fucking awesome Luke!
I'm gonna work on one tomorrow.
When we launch Glorious Bounty, we should submit these to the Covered site to get a little promo!

Wow! A cover within a cover is the perfect way to kick this off. It's been 12 hours and I'm still flipping through those random covers. I have about 5 or 6 saved, but I'm still looking for the right one.

Buddy - I found the right one. How could this get any better, you say? How about with MARACAS??

this could be interesting, time to learn how to draw (or aptly use photoshop, either way)

One more. I couldn't resist tackling the ol' Iron Man "Demon in a Bottle" cover where Tony realises that he is a disgusting shiftless drunk. I don't think I made a huge amount of changes or anything, but I was somehow compelled to do it anyway. Be glad you're not me. Go Tony Go! And the original:

Both of those new ones are wonderful. Westerns are always pretty hilarious on their own, but the maracas and pig, and party hat make it even better. And Luke, nice job making Tony look even worse. The face is amazing. Here is my attempt: and the original:

I've just finished drawing one, I'm scanning it now.
Not sure if it'll all get coloured today or not... We'll see...
I had fun drawing it. Maybe I'll do some more?
Meanwhile - great work you guys!

I adore this. I want to see you do every cover. Especially some of those big blocky Kirby characters.
I like how you drew the woman here too. I put women in issue 2 of Glorious Bounty and I like how this one looks.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been around much! I've been pretty busy with my new job, etc. I had to jump in on this one, though. Your covers are so brilliant! Luke, that Iron Man one looks like an old Mad Magazine illustration (that's high praise by the way). I chose an old DC romance comic:

Thanks Luke, though you really shouldn't be encouraging me to draw covers when I should be drawing Glorious Bounty!
I think I will do some more though. I am thinking of sticking with Marvel characters. We'll see though!

I love yours too, Jessica. Am really thrilled you were able to do one.
Personally I'd be happy to do one every week. It's a pretty interesting project, I mean, you can look at other people's covers but I don't think you REALLY look until you redraw it yourself.
We have a lot of comic artists lurking on these boards, I'd love to see some other takes.
We should pick a comic series and as a group redraw every single cover, thus creating an alternate chronology and website fodder. Radical.

Awesome work. My favorite part of the Hulk comic is the little Hulk in the top left corner. Seeing a second take on it, make me realize how ridiculous the original is. Is he running, or standing on one foot, or doing some weird dance?
I also this this definitely should be an ongoing project. Doing a full series would be awesome.
