We bought House of the Dead: OVERKILL yesterday and it is fucking fantastic!
I have never played any of the House of the Dead games before, but this one is so fun!
It's done in a grindhouse style, which was a genius move. It's fast and funny. It's done to look like a grainy print of a movie.
Also the guns that come with it are rad!

Awesome thread. I've played the previous House of the Dead games with the Wii Blaster and it was a lot of fun. I'll have to see if my brother bought this one so I can try it.
My first recommendations are oldies, but goodies.
Wii - Smash Bros Brawl. It's been a while since I've bought a new game... but I will never get sick of this one. I recommend making lots of screen shots in Brawl. Maybe I'll share some of mine here if I can figure out how to get them off of my SD card.
Xbox - Call of Juarez. It's an underappreciated Western Shooter. The multiplayer is a lot of fun. There's a hardcore group that still plays daily... I was once one of them and it's always fun jumping back in. Anyway, you can find the game for like $7 now. They just announced a sequel.

Here is the trailer for House of the Dead: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKUD2sLE5rMI never got into Smash Bros, but I haven't tried the Wii version. Is it different to the previous versions at all? I have no Xbox, but that sounds fun!

The new Smash Bros is barely any different than the old ones, just bigger. There's so much Nintendo fanboy-ism-ness packed into one really fun game. Check out: www.smashbros.com/en_us/index.html. Your head might explode with everything they included. If you haven't played Smash Bros, it's basically just multiplayer battling. You can play alone or with friends. It's one of the rare games that I still enjoy playing with a group in the same room as opposed to online.

The truly awesome part about Smash Bros Brawl is the Subspace story. That thing is a fanboy's dream come true. I swear I wanted to splooge at some of the moments in that story, and it's what keeps me going back to the game too. The whole thing is just a fantastic bundle. I have to recommend 'Wario Land-The Shake Dimension' and 'de Blob', two really fun platformers. The Wario game is a wonderful, old school side-scrolling platformer, and de Blob is a fantastic and funny 3D platformer with lots of really cool features (the music on each level starts off subdued, but as you paint more and more of it {which is your purpose in the game} the music gets louder and louder and more rhythmic. The awesome trailer for a game ever (Wario's): www.youtube.com/experiencewii?feature=pyvTrailer for de Blob: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaS-1TTYdPAOh, and I'm not sure when it comes out here, but for those of you who missed out on Pikmin in the GC days, I'd recommend the new Wii-vised for reals. I like my Wii.

de Blob is the best game on the Wii, IMO. It's not perfect, but it is different and fun and new. It is totally my favourite thing released so far.
I loved Wario too, but we are part of a small crowd, it way under-performed, in fact de Blob outsold it, even though de Blob didn't do all that well.
Pikmin is brilliant too. I might not pick up the reissue of the first game, but I definitely will of the second, because I never got around to getting it on the Gamecube.
Looks like we have pretty similar tastes in games, Chris!

Yeah it's not perfect (the lack of a quick save feature in levels that can take over an hour to finish is a crime and the missions can get a little repetitive), but it is a damn fun game. Glad it's going to be getting a sequel (I gotta ask, your post sounded very familiar to one I had read before, are you on somethingawful?
And if you do get Pikmin 2 and wanna play multiplayer, let me know, I never did get to play that. Or even finish it thanks to my Wii being unable to play NTSC games, even hacked as it is, and it's too annoying to hook up the GC and then have to use the freeloader to load the game.
Back on topic; one game series I just got reintroduced to was the Burnout series. I killed 2 back in the day, then, after EA picked it up, started to back off of it. 3 was okay, and I just recently grabbed Revenge for the PS2 from the Gametraders in the city (which I don't think will be around for much longer with the way they are looking) for $7.50 (not bad). EA has been making great strides to destroy the series (terrible music, annoying colour and lens filters and an almost lack of actually racing), but the Grand Prix and Eliminator races are good fun.

I am not on somethingawful, so it must have been my doppelganger.
I had the same complaint about deBlob. That and the fact that jump should have been a button not a waggle of the wiimote.
I am 99% sure I will get Pikmin 2.

I am 99% sure I will get Pikmin 2. Pikmin 2 improved on all the good stuff in Pikmin 1. I love that game.

I haven't seen The Watchmen yet, but I have been playing Deadly Creatures! I am pretty early into it, but so far it's great. Huge variety of moves and really fun premise. Loving it!

You're gonna have to let me know how Deadly Creatures works out, I was looking at some videos of it a couple of weeks ago and it looked interesting. And oh man, does anyone remember A Boy and his Blob? It came out on the NES like 20 years ago, and while the game itself was hampered by bad design, the concept itself was really fun. Well, they've just unveiled a new one: blog.wired.com/games/2009/03/first-adorable.htmlAnd might I say, I think it is in the running for most whimsical looking game ever (ign has the first videos of it in action too):

I am so excited about A Boy and his Blob. I loved the NES game, and barely ever had a chance to play it. I don't know if it's on Virtual Console, but it should be.

Picked up MadWorld on Wednesday from Gametraders in Carilion for $59.95 (none too shabby for a new game).
With the exception of the damn camera (which seems to be an issue for just about every Sega game in 3D) it some good fun. Needlessly but incredibly awesome over the top violence with awesome commentary by the awesome Joe DiMaggio. Good stuff.
